Absher Neurology is located in Greenville, South Carolina. Absher Neurology
has several goals:
1. Delivering high quality neurology care, with an emphasis on stroke, behavioral neurology and dementia,
headache, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, movement disorders, neurophysiology,
and other common problems;
2. Pursuing important clinical neuroscience research in the Greenville area; and
3. Providing professional and public education services in the Upstate region of South Carolina.
Personnel
Physicians
John R. Absher, M.D., F.A.A.N., is the President of Absher Neurology.
Dr. Absher grew up in Vienna, Virginia, and received a BS with honors in Chemistry from Radford University in 1982. In 1986, he received an M.D. degree from
the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia
Commonwealth University. He completed an internal medicine internship
at the University of Maryland Medical Systems, in
Baltimore, and then completed his neurology residency training from 1987 to 1990
at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics,
in Iowa City, Iowa. He then completed a two year Behavioral Neurology and
Neuropsychiatry fellowship while serving as an Instructor in
the Department of
Neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In 1992,
Dr. Absher joined the Department of Neurology at
Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center,
where he remained an Assistant Professor of Neurology until 1999, when he
relocated to Greenville, SC.
Dr. Absher is fully credentialed in MRI/CT imaging, and in neurosonology
through the American Society of Neuroimaging (ASN),
and has been involved with educational activities in this area for almost a
decade through both the ASN and the American Academy of
Neurology (AAN). Dr. Absher maintains an adjunct faculty position at Wake Forest
University, and has also
established new academic ties with the University of South Carolina
Medical School, as the
Director of Academic Neurology for the Greenville Hospital System.
Dr. Absher is "board certified" by the American Board of
Psychiatry and Neurology, in Adult Neurology, and has numerous publications.
